EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
FULL TIME
$34,000 - $36,000 per annum
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives.
Office Hours: 9:00am - 4:30 pm Monday to Friday
Overtime will be required for some events or meetings and will be compensated with time off in lieu (as approved).
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years senior management experience in the not for profit sector
- Experience in human resources, financial management, fundraising and partnership building
- Strong time management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proven experience working with a diverse group of people
Bearing the overall responsibility for the administration, planning, directing and coordinating of all activities, the Executive Director has to ensure that all policies and services reflect the EANS mission, vision, values and strategic directions. The Executive Director ensures that EANS complies with all government legislations, funding agreements and meets established goals and targets.
Together with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and implementing the sustainability plan for EANS including establishing targets and implementation strategies for resource development.
Typical Duties:
Leadership
Take a leadership role in implementation of Epilepsy Association’s mission and policies and provide the Board with sufficient information to make sound policy decisions;
Develop a knowledge of the Association’s funding areas;
Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with individuals and organizations which can provide information and insight to enhance the effectiveness of the Association;
Actively seek ways in which the Association can respond proactively to the needs of the community and make recommendations to the Board for appropriate actions;
Develop programs and organizational plans with the Board of Directors and staff;
Keep abreast of community needs and interests as they relate to the Association’s mission and goals;
In conjunction with the President and/or Vice President, participate in appropriate local, regional, national and affinity group conferences, functions and workshops.
Board and Committees
Attend monthly board meetings; ex officio non-voting for all committees, liaise with all committees;
Interface with Board Members ensuring that they are fully informed on the activities of the organization;
Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals;
Execute the decisions of the Board of Directors promptly and accurately;
Prepare written monthly reports for the Board of Directors;
Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization and executes all policies/decisions of the Board;
Oversee the implementation of human resource policies, procedures and practices;
Work with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization.
Budget and Finance
Create a budget for EANS. Review the budget with the Treasurer and put before the board for approval; ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines;
Oversee all banking and financial activities in conjunction with the Treasurer, including deposits and issuance of cheques for signatures, membership fees, donations, grants, campaigns, payroll, HST rebates, CRA requirements and the balancing of petty cash on a monthly basis;
Approves payment of invoices and co-sign cheques with the Treasurer or one other signing officer.
Fund Development
Prepare and submit current recurring grant applications;
Research new funding sources (grants, sponsorships etc.);
Oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization;
Work with the Fundraising and Purple Day committees to develop awareness events and any assistance as required for sponsors and auction donations for the annual gala;
Coordinate local events annually for Purple Day
Coordinate with the Fundraising Committee to execute fundraising campaigns;
Research new fundraising opportunities and present to the Board and Fundraising Committee;
Volunteer Coordination
Monitor all volunteer related needs and activities, including those pertaining to programs, fundraising and special events
