Purple Hike for Epilepsy

The Purple Hike for Epilepsy on Sunday, October 18th was a huge success! We held the hike in Halifax on the Halifax Commons and in Oxford at the Lions Community Center. Prizes were awarded for our top pledge earners (we will list them later!) and hopefully more photos. We had a 50/50 draw in Halifax and the winner was Graham Peterson who took home $55.00!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mayor of Halifax, His Worship Mayor Mike Savage, the other politicians who took time away from their busy days to support our event, the Honourable Labi Kousoulis, MLA Ben Jessome, MLA Lena Diab and MLA Iain Rankin; noted author Anne Gillie and of course our Purple Day Founder, Cassidy Megan! Amanda Mattinson, a veritable superwoman who pulled everything together in Oxford (she is a very busy mom who goes to school and works)! Special thanks to our committee members, Angela McCarthy, Cathy Ryan, Jessica Puddifant (our planning committee) who helped put all of this together and our Board Chair, Laura Hynes who gave up her Sunday to be on the Halifax Commons and our Treasurer, Jennifer Hutchings who spent the day on the Oxford site.

Our first annual Purple Hike for Epilepsy raised a over $5,000 and this money will be spent on educational supplies, programming and we can make a start to deliver services to rural Nova Scotia! If you haven’t had a chance to pledge, you can pledge till November 13th through our webpage at www.epilepsyns.org and you can add the message it is for the Purple Hike.
